Ghana Meteorological Agency Forecasts Fog, Then Afternoon Thunderstorms on October 29

The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has issued its forecast for Thursday, 29 October 2026, describing a day that begins damp and grey in some regions before brightening, with a chance of storms later in the south. According to Yen News, the agency's morning bulletin sets out conditions that change noticeably as the hours pass.

Why it matters

The forecast matters most for people whose day depends on the sky. Yen News notes that commuters, traders and anyone with outdoor plans should take the possibility of afternoon showers into account before leaving home. A morning that starts with poor visibility on the roads and ends with thunder in the south calls for a bit of planning on both ends of the day.

A morning of fog and low cloud

GMet expects mist or fog patches to settle over parts of the coastal belt, the forest zones and mountainous areas at the start of the day. Those conditions can reduce how far drivers and pedestrians can see, particularly on higher ground and along the coast.

Elsewhere in the country, the morning should be partly cloudy rather than foggy, according to the bulletin. The agency's forecast does not suggest the grey conditions will linger.

Clearer skies by afternoon, with storms in the south

As the morning gives way to the afternoon, GMet expects the weather to clear and become mostly sunny across Ghana. One exception is the far north: a light haze is forecast to remain over the extreme upper regions for much of the day.

The main watch point comes later. From mid-afternoon, residents in southern Ghana are advised to keep an eye on the sky. GMet warns that isolated thunderstorms or bursts of rain could form in a few places in that part of the country, with the unsettled weather possibly carrying on into the evening.

The forecast follows a run of similar advisories from the agency this week. Yen News reported on 28 October that GMet had warned of rain and thunderstorms and listed the areas expected to be affected, and on 27 October it published a comparable update naming areas due to see rain and storms. An earlier report on 26 October covered the agency's warning of reduced visibility and scattered rain in parts of the country. The pattern points to a wet spell in which conditions shift from day to day rather than a single passing system.

Yen News also reported separately that the Electricity Company of Ghana's Ashanti West Region confirmed a power outage affecting several communities on Tuesday, 27 October 2026. The company traced the disruption to a fault on its Guinness 1 feeder, which supplied the affected areas. Engineers were sent to repair the fault, and the company apologised to customers for the inconvenience. That report is not part of the weather bulletin and is included here only as context from the same outlet.

For Thursday, the practical picture is straightforward: fog in some areas at dawn, sunshine for most by the afternoon, and a chance of storms in the south later in the day.

Watch for GMet's next bulletin, which should show whether the southern storm risk carries into Friday.
